prenatal & postpartum care
Access to high-quality health care during—and even before—pregnancy is essential to giving
birth to a healthy baby. In Florida, one-quarter of women do not obtain adequate prenatal care, and that figure has increased in the past five years. Without adequate care, pregnant women and their infants are at risk for life-threatening complications.
Our prenatal clinic provides full spectrum care to women who have Medicaid coverage as well as those who are uninsured. Our clinic is staffed by midwives, who spend quality time with each patient, individualizing care plans that are tailored to be sensitive to the client’s cultural, ethnic, family, and lifestyle needs, while supporting a normal, healthy pregnancy, delivery and postpartum. In every setting, midwife-attended maternity care results in reduced infant and maternal mortality and morbidity, fewer medical interventions, decreased costs, increased savings, and improved client satisfaction.
Care includes but is not limited to: nutritional counseling, psychosocial evaluation and
support, informed consent, anticipatory guidance and patient advocacy. Client education is provided on overall pregnancy health, nutrition, childbirth, sibling preparation, breastfeeding, infant care, parenting skills and family planning. Each individual client’s educational needs are assessed and addressed accordingly.
